Story Hour for Kids
Every year, WE-CARE runs the Story Hour for Kids program, where she works in the economically challenged community teaching kids to read and to love books: Soul Clinic 2000- 2003, West Point 2006- 2009, Clara Town 2010 -2011 and Slipway in 2011-2012. Story Hour helps emergent readers, both children and adolescent youth, to read and develop a love for books. The day's activities begin with a reading session which is followed by a time to play. Then they are given snacks before they leave for home.
The program also has a gender angle in which girls ( high school levels) from the community are engaged as reading mentors and role models to encourage the younger girls (who at this level, are in significant numbers) to stay in school.
